Using PhotoShop Quick Mask and Gaussian Blur to Feather a Selection |
This tutorial was created using Photoshop CS3. You should be able to adapt the steps to other Photoshop versions. |
1) Make your selection using any of the many selection methods offered in Photoshop. |
2) Click the Quick Mask button to enter quick mask mode. |
3) Apply a blur by Filter>Blur>>Gaussian Blur. Make sure the preview box is checked and adjust the radius slider until you get the feathering you are after. |
4) Exit the Quick Mask mode by clicking the Quick Mask button again. Copy the selection to a new layer. (ctrl J) I have added a color layer between the new layer and background to show up the feathering. |
Try this method out - it is very quick and easy and can save a lot of time when you are making selections that need to be feathered. |
